The Sun Hotel & Bar is a wonderfully relaxing location to book a Lancaster hotel. Better yet, if you book directly with us, you are guaranteed the best available price and breakfast is included.
Please note The Sun is a historic building and we do not have a lift. Our staff are happy to help carry your bags to your room.
If you would prefer a room accessed by fewer stairs, on the first floor, please do not hesitate to let us know at the time of booking and we will try to meet your requirements.
All children are welcome and, if they are under 8-years-old and will be staying in one of the existing beds in the booked room, they can stay free of charge. Any child under 2-years-old can stay free of charge in one of our cribs. All older children and adults will be charged £10 pppn for an extra bed.
Please let us know your requirements at the time of booking so we can prepare your room ahead of you checking-in.
Unfortunately, the cots and extra beds are not available in Mini Doubles and we would recommend booking a Luxury Double or the Suite to accommodate the extras more comfortably.
These additional fees are not calculated automatically and should be paid for during your stay with us.
The maximum number of extra cribs or beds in each room is 1 with no additional beds or cots available in Mini Doubles. Please call us on 01524 66006 to discuss.
Sorry, but we do not permit pets in the hotel.
We have free wifi available throughout the building.
Baths vs Showers
All of our rooms have ensuite shower rooms, some also have baths. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you have specific requests and we’ll do what we can to allocate your room accordingly.
Facilities and Room Types
We offer two rates. The Advanced Purchase rate is a little cheaper, is charged at time of booking and is non-refundable/transferable. Any rooms booked at this rate cannot be refunded if cancelled.
We also offer our Pay On Arrival rate for those needing a little more flexibility, this rate is our standard rate and is subject to our 48-hour cancellation policy. Any cancellations received in the 2 days prior to expected arrival are charged.
You won’t find cheaper rates anywhere else – and all rooms booked through our website receive a continental breakfast free.
Large group bookings may be subject to different T&Cs. Please ask for details.
By car: Lancaster is easily accessible from the M6 motorway but please be aware the city’s one-way system can cause some difficulties, we would urge you to plan your route well ahead of time.
We recommend Castle car park for those guests with cars (renamed from Parksafe in November 2021). Open 7am until 8pm with cars locked up overnight (emergency release fee applies to access your vehicle during closure times). We’d suggest parking first before walking the 2-minutes across to the hotel.
We suggest downloading the RingGo app to pay your parking charges without having to “feed the meter”. You can also select the “24-hour Rover” ticket on the RingGo app which is a flat rate of £9.80 for 24-hours parking (information correct in November 2021). If you pull up outside the hotel door you will need to drive all the way around the one-way system again so we would urge you to plan your route ahead of time.
By public transport: The city has good transport links and we are located 5-10 minutes walk from Lancaster Train Station and a 2-minute walk from the bus station. Manchester and Liverpool airports are about an hour away on the train or by car.
Check-In & Check-Out
We guarantee to have your room ready from 3pm on the day of your expected arrival and you can check-in until 10.30pm. We’re happy to take early check-in requests and will endeavour to have everything ready for you at your required time.
If your room isn’t ready early, we can store any luggage for you.
The reception is open until 10.30pm each day and we ask any guest expecting to arrive after this time to call ahead at least 24 hours before checking in so the necessary access arrangements can be made.
Check-out is between 8am and 11am on the day of your departure.
Our Bar & Food Service
Our busy bar offers an unrivalled selection of drinks and cask ales and we serve home cooked food at breakfast, lunch and supper.
We don’t have a traditional restaurant and our service times do reflect this but don’t forget you are staying in the heart of the city with many dining options right on your doorstep. If you feel like sitting outside to enjoy a drink or some food, you can utilise our beautiful beer garden in Lancaster’s city centre!
We hope to return to the following service times when indoor hospitality reopens on Monday 17th May. At the moment, our beer garden is open for drinks only 12-10pm each day.
Breakfast: Monday-Friday 7.30am to 11am | Saturdays 8am to 11am | Sundays & Bank Holidays 8.30am to 11am
Lunch & Supper: Monday-Saturday 12noon to 3pm & 4pm to 9pm | Sundays & Bank Holidays 12noon to 8pm
Please note that these service times may alter over certain holiday periods, we ask that you call ahead and check if you’d like to dine with us over Easter and Christmas.
The bar is open from 11am each day and closes 12midnight during the week, 1am Fridays & Saturdays and 11.30pm Sundays.
All guests have 24-hour access to the hotel via a separate night entrance with the allocated room key.
