What a delight when we entered the hotel which is right on the road in the centre of Lancaster, warm and friendly atmosphere, delightful staff who were sympathetic to our plight. The room..well beyond our expectations for the reasonable price charged, it was the suite Room 15 and as had been said before very large. Two televisions, sitting area, bath and huge shower,

Next was to grab some food in the hotel as the storm was raging outside. We had the chef's special a pea and brocolli risotto which was quite the best one we had ever tasted (our congratulations to Ben the chef that day). After an excellent night's sleep we had a wonderful breakfast.

I can't praise the staff enough for making our unwanted stop in Lancaster such a pleasure, everyone of them was charming and friendly. Congratulations to the Manager of the Sun you have certainly got it right and we will stay again.

We stayed at the Sun Hotel after we had been Gorge Walking in the Lake District. It was in a perfect location, right in the centre of Lancaster close to restaurants and bars. The hotel had a fantastic bar with real ale, it seemed a popular choice on a Saturday evening. The room we stayed in was lovely, comfortable and had everything you needed from a flat screen tv to a requested bath. The breakfast was very tasty, we sat and read the papers watching Lancaster waking up. It was the perfect way to return to my university town after graduating over 7 years ago!!

Lancaster is a hidden gem with a great atmosphere and original shops. The hotel is very central to the town square and the castle. The parking arrangements(nearby secure car park) were very straightforward. This was our second visit and this time we had a super king bed which was very comfortable. We also enjoyed having a cafetiere and ground coffee in our room. Breakfast was excellent.

We stayed in a superior double room for one night. We received a warm welcome from the hotel staff and the room was exactly as described on the website. The a la carte breakfast was excellent for choice, quality and presentation.

Centrally located in a beautiful historic town close to the Lake District, also to Lancaster University. Large pleasant room, impeccably clean, friendly staff, good breakfast with freshly-baked bread.

We just stayed overnight with friends but The Sun ticked all the boxes. The bar area is comfortable and the food choices good. The rooms were spotless and comfortable and plenty of choice at breakfast. When you check in, you are given a £5 voucher against any bar food or drink. We enjoyed a nice glass of Prosecco with ours! Highly recommended.

Defo return without hesitation. Brill week end in great surroundings. Excellent VFM all round, we would not hesitate to return and already propose to do so. Location is unbeatable to stroll around town, staff friendly and helpful, hotel modern yet quirky, great bar and atmosphere. 10 out of 10.

We stayed at the Sun Inn for one night in January 2010 and it was perfect. The room was beautiful with a huge king sized bed with crisp white linen. The bathroom was clean and modern with complimentary toiletries. There were lovely touches in the room like a coffee pot with fresh coffee. The pub downstairs was cosy and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice - my partner had a full English, I had eggs benedict and they gave us complimentary frothed milk for our two-year old nephew who wanted a 'babycinno'. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and child-friendly. The hotel was just five minutes walk from the train station and at the top of the shopping area with plenty of pubs and restaurants nearby.

Firstly the hotel was in a brilliant location, right in the centre but still really close to great secure parking (Parksafe - also highly recommended). Upon arrival the staff were friendly and helpful. We were shown right up into our room (something that rarely seems to happen in hotels you are generally just given the key and sent off to find your room on your own) I thought this was areally nice touch. The room was gorgeous with lovely furnishings massive comfortable beds, proper coffee with a cafetiere in the room as well as tea and hot chocolate. Everything was really well appointed. We dined in the bar downstairs in the evening and the food and wine selection was brilliant we had one of the cheese boards which was an absolute bargain given the quantity and quality of the food. In the morning the breakfast was of an equally high standard again with a lot of choice. Our stay here was wonderful and I would definately return!

Everything was spot on. Wouldn't have changed a thing about it, from the location to the rooms to the staff. Particularly love the bar with indoor well.

Throughout its history, the Sun Inn has been associated with royalty and high society. Once again, due to its careful & meticulous restoration, it regains its place as one of Lancaster's leading hostelries…. The Hotel is stylish yet friendly and informal… The Sun is a fine example of Lancaster's history enhanced by modern enterprise...”

The Sun is my favourite hotel in the UK. The hotel is a delight. The rooms are relaxing, stylish, comfy, quiet and different - different to anything id staying in previously - totally modern and yet in keeping with the rest of the hotel. The bar is modern yet centuries in conception, the staff are very young and yet very keen to assist. I loved it,

Well, to summarise... Bloody Fantastic, when travelling to Lancaster again, I will certainly not be staying everywhere else. Certainly one of Lancaster best kept secrets.

We were pleasantly surprised by the outstanding interior decor and delighted by the friendliness and efficiency of all the staff.
Although it was quite a "hike" to our room on the top floor, we were compensated by a large comfortable bed, electric fan, filter coffee machine, TV and en suite toilet and shower. Our room was a standard room and very compact but still a bargain at £55 including breakfast.

Whilst on the subject of breakfast - fabulous!
It was lovely warm weather during our stay so we eat outside in the courtyard. Lashings of orange juice coffee and tea and toast.. Eggs (including duck eggs) fried, scrambled or poaches, bacon smoked or not, a variety of sausages, beans, tomatoes, black puddings, mushrooms and plenty of it.
I shall go again

Overall, a great place to stay, especially for quiet mid week break, or a “buzzing” weekend

A huge surprise. I booked this place with a degree of trepidation. I normally focus on the Holiday Inn/Hilton style operations. However this place is a revelation. The rooms are splendid, achingly modern with large LCD televisions, Sky TV, multi jet massage showers and a couple of very interesting original art pieces perched on the wall. The style is modern but classic, nothing twee or flowery about these rooms - they are very tasteful but splendidly colourful. The breakfast is also excellent with a-la-carte choice (no buffet) and oddities such as duck eggs abound. Very impressive venue - will visit again.

The hotel is basically a modern twist on a traditional coaching inn. My room was extremely well appointed, every fitting looked top of the line. The showers had about fifteen different jets, the TV was a large lcd and the general feel of the place is quality. This is definitely not a run of the mill B&B but more like a small 5 star hotel. Keen and friendly staff, excellent bar area and an absolutely first rate (and very unusual) breakfast.
